The Dahlonega Jazz Society, one of only 8 such groups in the state of Georgia, was launched with a concert and jam session sponsored by NGCSU and local jazz fan Bill Fielder. The organization’s aim is simply to promote and preserve the American jazz tradition and provide an outlet for young (and old) jazz musicians to perform with and learn from area jazz professionals. About 40 people were in attendance (a huge crowd by jazz standards) for a concert by the David Brothers Band, who played one set and provided support for the other musicians present. Atlanta legend Tony Carere even showed up and brought down the house with a rousing rendition of Cherokee, propelled by John David’s favorite tempo--315 beats per minute. Check out the PHOTOS, courtesy of Allyson David.
